The idea behind a cash mob is that a gathering of people arrive at a local store or business to spend (a suggested) $20 each, and then proceed on to a local bar or restaurant. The catch is that the location of the Cash Mob isn’t revealed until 48 hours in advance, so there’s a great element of surprise and anticipation.

This first event took place at Cadeaux Gifts and the “aftermob” was at Gino’s Restaurant, both located in our local area of Sapperton. We got the momentum going about the event through creating Facebook and Twitter pages for the event, which gained followers daily as the buzz grew about the event.

We were thrilled when both our local papers, the New West Newsleader and The Record featured the Cash Mob, and CTV and Global picked it up for their Saturday night broadcasts!

As you can see, many New West businesses came together to contribute to a fantastic evening of networking and celebration. It truly was a great party, but, most importantly, it achieved our objectives of highlighting some really inspirational people, who are working hard to better the New West community. These individuals are truly some up-and-coming stars and ones to watch as New West grows and becomes more than the “hidden gem” that it’s always been. It was a privilege to meet them and put on an event celebrating their individual and cumulative triumphs. Watch the tribute video below to see what some of them had to say!

Overall, we had 35 fantastic vendors selling their wares to approximately 150 attendees and we raised over $400 for the Firefighters’ Charitable Fund. We were really proud of the event and are planning to make the next event bigger and better, so stay tuned for news of the next one!
